Best SEO Apps for Shopify (2026): 8 Compared, With Prices

Short answer: most of the popular SEO apps for Shopify do similar jobs: they compress images and write alt text, edit meta tags in bulk, add structured data, find broken links, and lately create files such as llms.txt for AI assistants. They differ in what they lead with and in how their plans are priced. Before you choose, know what Shopify already does without an app: it generates your sitemap, robots.txt and canonical tags, its themes add product structured data, and it compresses JPG images and minifies code. Pick one app for the gap you actually have, and treat any promise of rankings with care, because Google says no one can guarantee them.

Disclosure: we make ProductReady, a Shopify app, under the MAY Plugins name. So we’ve left it out of the comparison and describe it separately at the end.

How we picked

On October 31, 2026 we searched the Shopify App Store for “seo” and took the first eight results that are SEO apps, one per developer. That meant skipping a second app from a developer already on the list, and an alt-text app listed under Accessibility rather than SEO. The apps appear below in the order the search showed them. That order is the App Store’s, not a ranking of ours, and it can differ by location and change over time; we searched from the Netherlands.

We didn’t install or test the apps. Every detail below comes from each app’s own App Store page on the same day. Prices and ratings change, so check the listing before you install.

What an SEO app can and can’t do on Shopify

Already built into Shopify

Shopify handles a good part of technical SEO without any app. According to its Help Center:

  • Canonical tags are added automatically, to keep duplicate content out of search results.
  • sitemap.xml and robots.txt are generated for you.
  • Title tags are generated by your theme and include your store name, and Shopify’s themes include product structured data.
  • Your own edits: you can change the page title, meta description and URL of every product, collection, page and blog post, and the alt text of every image. Shopify’s media editor may suggest alt text for images that have none.
  • Redirects: you can create URL redirects in your admin, up to 100,000 of them, or more on Shopify Plus. For a large number of redirects, Shopify itself suggests a third-party app.
  • Speed basics: Shopify includes a CDN, compresses JPG images automatically and often serves them as WebP, and minifies CSS and JavaScript.
  • AI writing: Sidekick, the assistant in your Shopify admin, can write product descriptions and fill in fields on a page, highlighting its changes so you can review them first.

Our Shopify SEO checklist walks through each of these fields and where to find them in your admin.

Where an app can help

Mostly with scale and with things your theme doesn’t do. The listings above offer bulk editing of meta tags and alt text, page audits, broken-link detection, extra types of structured data such as FAQ or breadcrumbs, image resizing, and AI-written text. If you have twenty products and time to write each field yourself, Shopify’s own fields may be enough. With a large catalog, the same work by hand is where an app earns its price.

What no app can do

  • Guarantee rankings. Google says no one can guarantee a top ranking, and warns against anyone who claims to.
  • Guarantee rich results. Valid structured data makes a page eligible, but Google decides whether to show stars, prices or FAQs.
  • Unlock Google’s AI features with a special file. Google says AI Overviews and AI Mode have no extra requirements beyond normal SEO, and that you don’t need new AI text files or special markup to appear in them. More on how products reach AI assistants in our guide to Shopify AI search optimization.

How to choose

  1. Find your gap first. Look at Search Console’s page indexing report, run a product page through Google’s Rich Results Test, check Shopify’s web performance report, and paste a few SEO titles and meta descriptions into our free title & meta description checker. For what good lengths look like, see our guides to product title length and meta description length.
  2. Match the gap to the app’s main job. The table below maps common gaps to the listings that name them.
  3. Read the free plan’s limits. Free plans cap images, AI credits, products or pages, and the caps differ a lot from one app to the next.
  4. Check what the price scales with. StoreSEO’s plans are set by product count, Tapita adds a charge on larger Shopify plans, and TinySEO lists a price per extra image optimization. Work out what your catalog would cost, not just the entry plan.
  5. Look at the badge and the latest reviews. Shopify gives the Built for Shopify badge to apps that meet its highest standards for performance, design and integration. Read the newest reviews as well as the average.
  6. Test on a few products during the trial. Shopify’s web performance report shows how changes such as app installs affect your store’s speed. Before you uninstall, check whether the app needs extra steps to remove its theme code.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Paying for what Shopify already does. Sitemaps, robots.txt, canonical tags, a CDN and basic image compression come with your store. Shopify also notes that many suggestions from third-party speed scanners are already in place or don’t apply to Shopify stores.
  • Running two apps for the same job. Shopify says too many apps loading assets on your storefront can slow it down. If two apps both edit meta tags or add product markup, let one of them own it.
  • Expecting rankings from the install. An app helps you fix and fill in things. Google still decides what ranks and what shows as a rich result.
  • Applying AI text in bulk without reading it. Shopify warns that AI output can contain errors and asks you to review what any tool creates. Check a sample before you apply a batch. Our product description template shows what a good description should cover.
  • Treating llms.txt as a Google requirement. Google says its AI features need no special files. If Google is your main channel, don’t pick an app for that reason alone.
  • Leaving old app code behind. Shopify says uninstalling an app doesn’t automatically remove the code it added to your theme. Ask the developer how to remove it fully.

Where ProductReady fits

We make ProductReady, which is why it isn’t in the comparison. Rather than images, speed or markup, it works on the words of each product. From your own product data it writes the product title and description, the SEO title and meta description, the Google Shopping title and description, and an AI summary, and it suggests a category, product type and tags. For a new product, you start with a working title and a few notes. You preview every field before anything changes, apply in one click and can undo from version history within your plan’s undo window, one product at a time or in bulk. It re-checks your catalog every month, so new and changed products are picked up at the next check, and a free scan shows which products are missing details.

It’s new: on October 31, 2026 its listing shows a 5.0 rating from one review. The free plan covers 5 products, once, and paid plans start at $19/month with a 14-day free trial. If you also need image compression or structured data, you can pair it with one of the apps above; just let one app own the SEO title and meta description fields.

Try ProductReady on 5 products for free.

To check the length and preview of the SEO titles and meta descriptions you already have, use our free Shopify title & meta description checker. It runs in your browser, so nothing is sent anywhere.
